Sunday Coffee Fellowship

Every Sunday worshipers at Olivet have the opportunity for fellowship over coffee and refreshments between the 8:30 and 9:45am worship services and the 9:45 and 11:00am services. During the summer, while there are two worship services, Coffee Fellowship will be held from 10:00-11:00 am with refreshments and a short program. These relaxed, informal gatherings foster the building of relationships and community within the congregation and among people attending different worship services and Sunday School classes. Volunteers are invited to provide simple nut-free food items for these weekly gatherings. A sign-up sheet is posted on the wall in the Fellowship Hall.

Table Talk

Two fellowship groups meet on one Friday each month from September to May for a shared meal and discussion of a topic related to living out our faith in the world today. These “Table Talk” gatherings are held at the church and in members’ homes with each person/couple attending bringing a dish to share. The good food, the fellowship, and the lively discussions of the evening’s chosen topic have made these gatherings very popular.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

On the third Thursday of the month a group meets in the morning at Olivet to work on shawls and lap robes that are delivered to members of the community going through a difficult time in their lives to remind them that they are wrapped in God’s love. If you knit or crochet, or would like to learn how, you’ll love this group that shares tips and information about yarns and knitting, but also share their lives as fellow Christians, as they work on prayer shawls together.

Men's Prayer Breakfast

The men of the Olivet community are invited to a breakfast at the church on the first Friday of the month at 7:00 am. A time of prayer and sharing around a topic of faith and discipleship follows, ending by 8:00 am.

Bethlehem Bazaar and Book Sale

The Mission Committee organizes an annual Alternatives Gifts Fair and Book Sale on the third Saturday of November. The Book Sale offers thousands of great books at incredible prices, with all proceeds supporting financial assistance of seminary students in our partner synod in Ethiopia. The Bethlehem Bazaar offers handicrafts and food items that benefit needy artisans and producers, or local and international missions. There is also a delicious menu of lunch items available for purchase from the Presbyterian Women of Olivet. The Bethlehem Bazaar and Book Sale is a great opportunity to visit with church members and neighbors. But most importantly it is an opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping, and support some very worthy causes and ministries. Why not give gifts to your loved ones that “give twice”: to the recipient, as well as to a local or international ministry, or lower-income artisan?

Advent Wreath Making Workshop

Advent is a time of preparation for the coming of Jesus. On the first Sunday of Advent, Olivet holds a workshop to enable members of the community to prepare an advent wreath for home devotional use during the four weeks of Advent. Supplies and devotional booklets for use with the wreaths are provided.

Church Family Thanksgiving Dinner (November)

On the Wednesday before the week of Thanksgiving, we hold our annual Olivet Church Family Thanksgiving Dinner. Come enjoy a meal of turkey and all the fixins’ as we strengthen our fellowship with one another and grow in lives of gratitude as Christians. The Fellowship Committee prepares the meal, and everyone who attends is invited to bring a dessert to share and make a donation to assist with the cost of the meal. Following dinner, we share songs and prayers of thanksgiving.

Trunk or Treat (October)

On the last Sunday evening of October, adults and youth in the church bring decorated vehicles to the church parking lot for children, dressed in their Halloween best, to go trick-or-treating from trunk to trunk. The evening also includes games and activities for children, and concludes with a shared meal, and sometime a concert by a visiting music group.

End-of-Summer Picnic (August)

On the Sunday before the start of public school, we hold a picnic at the church after the last morning worship service. This is always a wonderful opportunity to reconnect as a church family and share our summer experiences with one another. The meal is provided by the church with attendees invited to make a donation to defray the cost.

Recognition of 90+ Year-Olds (March)

Olivet is blessed to have a significant number of members who are aged 90 or above, whose faith and lives witness to and enrich us all. On the last Sunday of March, we recognize these special members and hold a special reception for them and their families after the 11:00 am worship service.

Chili Cookoff (January)

On the third Wednesday of January, men of the Olivet community bring pots of chili for a church fellowship meal and fun and friendly competition for awards in various categories. As the votes for “Best” in each category are being tallied, a brief annual meeting of the congregation is held.

Church Family Dinners

Each fall and winter the Olivet Church family has the opportunity to gather each Wednesday evening for a meal and a time of sharing and learning. Cooking teams prepare simple meals beginning at 5:30pm, and those attending are invited to make a donation to defray expenses. At 6:15pm, there is a study group for adults. The gatherings in the fall conclude with an annual Thanksgiving dinner on the Wednesday before the week of Thanksgiving.
