Music Ministry Opportunities

Children, preschool through 5th grade, have several music opportunities throughout the year during Sunday School to prepare for the annual Christmas Pageant, mid-week ministry to prepare for worship, and Vacation Bible School. Youth, 6th - 12th grade, also enjoy music options which encompass worship offerings for Youth Sundays and additional worship services, sharing music from retreats and mission trips, leading music for Vacation Bible School, singing or playing with the Music Team or Chancel Choir, playing tone chimes, and Christmas caroling. Adults of all ages participate weekly with the Music Team and the Chancel Choir with additional opportunities that include vocal and instrumental ensembles, quartets, a men's ensemble, a tone chime choir, and select soloists.

Trunk or Treat (October)

On the last Sunday evening of October, adults and youth in the church bring decorated vehicles to the church parking lot for children, dressed in their Halloween best, to go trick-or-treating from trunk to trunk. The evening also includes games and activities for children, and concludes with a shared meal, and sometime a concert by a visiting music group.

Church Family Dinners

Each fall and winter the Olivet Church family has the opportunity to gather each Wednesday evening for a meal and a time of sharing and learning. Cooking teams prepare simple meals beginning at 5:30pm, and those attending are invited to make a donation to defray expenses. At 6:15pm, there is a study group for adults. The gatherings in the fall conclude with an annual Thanksgiving dinner on the Wednesday before the week of Thanksgiving.

About Kids' Connection/LOGOS

"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” (Acts 2:42)

This verse gives us a glimpse into the lifestyle of the early Christian church, what was important to them, and how they spent their time. It is also foundational for our midweek ministry, Kids’ Connection. As we prioritize our lives and seek balance in today’s "do it all, have it all" society, may we too devote ourselves to living faith filled lives in community with one another.

Kids' Connection (KC) is offered at Olivet for two eight-week sessions in fall and spring. KC uses the LOGOS Ministry design and theology which is part of GenOn Ministries. Each week children experience Worship Skills, Bible Study and Recreation/Mission and Family Time Dinner while building Christian relationships with peers and adults that last a lifetime. Registration occurs at the Parents' Meetings before each session.  Volunteers are needed. Contact Betsy Dishman for information, betsy@olivetpresbyterian.org.

KC’s Bible leader, Kelly Kaufman, serves as GenOn’s Community Outreach Coordinator. Read more about her ministry here.

GenOn’s free bi-monthly e-newsletter includes insights, articles and announcements about developing lifelong disciples through intergenerational experiences. Hear from local LOGOS leaders, parents, pastors, and intergenerational experts.

This year's theme is Maker Fun Factory. At Maker Fun Factory, kids discover that God made them—and for a purpose! Kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and devour yummy treats, experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they'll take home and play with all summer long. Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings. Each day concludes with the Funshop Finale that gets everyone involved in living what they've learned.
